Judge Rules Cop Murderer Can Pay For Defense-Blogers Please lend your voice
In the aftermath, two young children ages 8 and 4, are left behind for the rest of their lives without their mother. And, will forever question, why their “Daddy” a man sworn as a public servant and a Police Chief, to serve and protect, gunned down only mother. In an instant, their whole safe world as they once knew it is gone.
On Friday, November 4, 2005, Tina Curran’s mother, Bonnie Smith, who has custody of the two young motherless children went to court asking the judge to prohibit the sale of the marital home and other assets in order to provide much needed support for the kids.
Prohibiting the liquidation of assets will prevent Richard Curran from using funds to pay for a much needed legal defense. This was a good legal maneuver on the part of the murder victim’s mother. And I applaud her for doing this under such tragic circumstances.
In my opinion, pressure needs to be placed on the court system in order for the money to go to the children. If you are a parent, grandparent, please think about how you would feel if this happened in your family.
Throughout my own childhood, by the grace of God, my mother was sparred from death until we were older. In January 1989, my father a Chicago Violent Crimes Detective murdered my mother at the age of 47, before taking his own life. The memory of his words from my childhood still plays like a bad recording in my mind. As a child, I often heard my father say, “If you leave, I will find you, if I find you, I will kill you.”
