Stem Cell Bill May Be Dead- But Research Will Continue
American's seem to be jumping up and down in protest over President Bush's veto of the embryonic stem cell research federal funding bill. These days anything the President seems to do is like a sour grape with many people. But, consider for a moment what the President actually did in vetoing the bill. The issue is whether or not federal funding should be provided. And nothing more.
We are overlooking the fact that this does not stop such research done by universities, research institutes, drug companies, hospitals, etc.
It seems that most of the people who are objecting to President George W. Bush’s veto of the embryonic stem cell research federal funding bill are either uninformed or intentionally overlook the fact that this does not stop such research done by universities, research institutes, drug companies, etc.
This is a controversial moral issue with a variety of views and perceived limits, such that a significant part of the population may not agree. But, that won't stop private foundations such as the American Diabetic Association or the Musuclar Dystrophy Foundation from continuing their important in this area. And states will still be able to provide money for such projects. It just won't come from the Federal Government.
