![]() As a state trooper in Alaska in the 80s, John Addis excelled in crime scene investigation and forensics. John Patrick Addis is an intriguing individual. In the 1980s, Addis was a state trooper in Alaska. He rose quickly from patrolling the highways of the Alaskan interior to homicide detective.
His former colleagues remember him as highly intelligent, but somewhat eccentric. During his stint as a trooper, Addis lived on the outskirts of Fairbanks with his wife and two young children. He played the French horn, flew his own small airplane, hunted, fished, studied UFOs and worshipped the deity RAH. Police say he abused his wife, both physically and emotionally. According to investigators, she became a prisoner in the log cabin they shared. The marriage finally ended in a bitter divorce.
After the divorce, his wife received custody of the children, but Addis kidnapped them and flew his plane to Montana. When police caught up with Addis, he was convicted of custodial interference. He did a few months in jail, effectively ending his career in law enforcement. Could a crime scene expert have covered up the scene of his own crime?
A New Life -- And A Crime Scene That's Just Too Clean
![]() Addis and Joann Albanese in happier times.
By 1995, Addis had relocated to Las Vegas, and reinvented himself as a body-builder and personal trainer. While working at a local gym, Addis met an attractive divorcee named Joann Albanese.
At first, Addis seemed like the perfect boyfriend. He was attentive, wrote love letters, and moved into her lovely home. However, as time passed, the abusive, controlling John Addis reemerged. Before long, Joann realized she couldn't tolerate being treated like a slave and tried to break the relationship off.
On August 19, 1995, Joann Albanese disappeared. So did John Addis. Initially, the case was classified as missing persons because there was no crime scene, no witnesses, and most importantly, no dead body. But when Detective Larry Hanna of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Unit learned of Addis's background as a former cop and homicide investigator, Joann's vanishing without a trace and the absence of a crime scene made him very suspicious.
Addis became the prime suspect in Joann's disappearance. The night before she vanished, police say Joann told a girlfriend she was breaking up with John, and was going to tell him.
The only clue police had was Joann's car. It had been found in Little Hell's Canyon near Prescott, Ariz. An extensive search of the desert area near the car turned up nothing.
But in mid-1998, a hunter stumbled across human skeletal remains in the Arizona desert. DNA tests proved it was Joann Albanese.
On July 31, 1998, a grand jury in Clark County, Nev., charged John Addis with the murder and kidnapping of Joann -- but there was still no sign of him. Accused Killer Moves South of Border
![]() Addis started dating this woman in Guadalajara, Mexico. The two have since disappeared. Investigators have since learned that in 1997, Addis was living in Guadalajara, Mexico under the aliases John Charles Elwars and John Charles Stone. There, he began dating a Mexican woman named Laura Liliana Padilla Squares, who was 26 at the time.
But Addis and Laura vanished from Guadalajara and have not been seen since. Her family believes Addis kidnapped Laura. Detective Hanna and Laura's family fear the worst, but are holding out hope that she could still be alive and traveling with Addis. |

The state suspended the dental license of Hicham Riba on Sept. 29, two days after Diamond died on life support.
Attorneys for the state Department of Financial and Professional Regulation on Friday told an administrative law judge that Riba gave Diamond a fatal overdose of oral and intravenous sedatives that put the 35-pound kindergartner into an irreversible coma, and that the dentist isn't even licensed to practice deep sedation -- only conscious sedation.
"Although these doses were already high, additional doses were given," said veteran oral surgeon and University of Illinois Professor William Flick, testifying as the state's expert witness. "All of the effects of these drugs are additive. The more drugs, the more you're going to see the negative side effects . . . respiratory and cardiovascular depression."

Last night Bravo's Project Runway aired part 1 of 2 in for the final episode, with part two airing next week. And of course it ended with a tease. Contestants might have design sophistication, they apparently have less people sophistication. Teaching/ learning research shows that people perform quite differently in different situations - e.g. some people need more time to take tests cuz they work slowly/ poorly under pressure.

The painting that is pictured on the stamp - "Madonna and Child with Bird" - is on display at the museum. Dating back to around 1765, the oil-on-canvas painting is attributed to Ignacio Chacon, an artist who painted from about 1745 to 1775 in Cuzco, Peru.
The painting is part of the Engracia and Frank Barrows Freyer Collection of Peruvian colonial art at the museum.
The colorful 39-cent stamp shows the words “Christmas,” along with the image of the painting, the artist’s name and the words “Denver Art Museum.”
According to a blog...Bloggers are going to hell one entry at a time, according to Kevin D. Denee of the Restored Church of God's Ambassador Youth magazine:
Should teenagers and others in the Church express themselves to the world through blogs? Because of the obvious dangers; the clear biblical principles that apply; the fact that it gives one a voice; that it is almost always idle words; that teens often do not think before they do; that it is acting out of boredom; and it is filled with appearances of evil -- blogging is simply not to be done in the Church. It should be clear that it is unnecessary and in fact dangerous on many levels.
Let me emphasize that no one—including adults -- should have a blog or personal website (unless it is for legitimate business purposes).
But, what better example is there to learn from a God loving community who not only practice what they preach, but live it, each and every day.

This computer-generated illustration provided by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department shows what an unidentified murder victim may have looked like in 1979 when her body was found in Caledonia, N.Y. The girl, believed to be about 15 years old, was shot in the forehead beside a country road in Caledonia the night of Nov. 8, 1979, then was dragged into the field and shot again in the back, police said. To try to unmask the identity of a teenage girl found slain in a cornfield in western New York in 1979, investigators have turned to a pollen-analysis technique rarely used in the United States in hopes of pinpointing where she once lived. Yet another day passes and innocent children, once, again are killed. This time in a quiet Amish community in Pennsylvania. The shooter, just as in the other recent tragedy, seperated the girls from the boys. I watched nightline tonight as they reported on the shootings. The children wisked away by helicopters taken to other hospitals for immediate medical attention. Faxes sent by hospitals to the police department so they could notify the parents in this community whose residents do not have the internet or cell phones or cable television. They lead a simple quiet life. That was up until, today. Another officer as he carried a 6-year old girl out to safety, died in his arms. And the reporter at the scene covering the story, barely able to complete his report, overcome with emotion.
