Finally, ten months later new charges have been filed in connection with the slaying of a 2-year-old girl last year by Police Officer Minet. A grand jury indicted Nicholas Minet, 28, a former Kansas City, Mo., police officer, on a charge of second-degree murder.

Minet is accused of beating to death 2-year-old Alyssa in a Northland home in October 2006. Minet was the live-in boyfriend of Alyssa's mother. Court records said Alyssa died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The girl's father, Chris Eickmeier, said he's relieved the murder charge was filed.

Eickmeier said he thinks about his daughter every day.

"I'll obviously never forget about her. It still just breaks my heart to see that's she's gone. I see a picture of her every day; I have a picture hanging over my entertainment center. Sometimes it's hard to look at," Eickmeier said. "I just try not to think about it sometimes, because it hurts really bad."

A year later, Eickmeier is still trying to move forward, all the while thinking about his bright little girl. He said he hopes no one else will suffer through the same kind of pain.

"Just love and cherish your kids, because you never know, you never know. You see all this junk on TV about kids being kidnapped and murdered, obviously, I was a like a lot of people, 'That will never happen to me -- I'm too careful,'" Eickmeier said.

Minet's bond was set at $250,000.
