Charlotte Officer Joseph Anthony Indicted Faces Sex, Kidnapping Charges
This afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer Joseph Anthony is out of jail facing very serious charges.
Investigators say while he was on duty, Officer Anthony sexually assaulted and kidnapped a woman.
According to WBTV- We're told another officer reported the incident in November. Anthony, at the expense of tax payer dollars, this tin badge cowardly cop was then put on paid administrative leave, but, now he is on unpaid leave.
He has been on the police force for nine years.
Officers are also conducting an internal investigation that they hope to wrap up soon.
Police Chief Darrell Stephens said the allegations sicken him.
"As difficult as it is for any police department to have charges brought against one of their own, the CMPD aggressively pursues any allegations of misconduct because nothing is more important than the integrity of the department and confidence that the community has in the organization and the people that serve them," Stephens said.
