http://bp0.blogger.com/_Se19XAPwVi8/RvM8d6RolYI/AAAAAAAABkI/5ykVmpjpESE/s1600-h/nailah.jpgIn the heat of a man's rage and anger, a beautiful, vibrant young women was murdered.  As most of you know who view my blog and there are approximately 5,000 readers daily, I often focus on the tragedy of those who lost their lives to domestic violence.  Now in the aftermath of death, you, the readers can contribute to life. Those around us who remain silent, and at times make headlines, only after a tragedy that we all read with our morning coffee.  If you do not believe violence can occur in your family, think again. Perhaps you have a daughter away at college, who at this moment is involved in a potentially dangerous relationship.  Or that friend or relative who has vanished from your cell phone call list because you have moved on with your life.  Perhaps they need assistance in the area of legal or domestic violence services where they live.   The trust fund created in loving memory of Ms. Nailah O. Franklin, with the information below, will save lives.  How?  The Community Trust will make sure your voice is heard with your donation and provide funding to those agencies who make a difference and provide assistance and save lives to teens and women.  It is my hope that women like Nailah Franklin and my own mother, Roberta Murphy who cries for help, fell on deaf ears, will ring as loud as a siren in order for other women to be able to receive the assistance, that will save their lives!

Being Hungry Does Not Take A Holiday

I work daily with people in our country who must survive on food stamps and public assistance in order to survive.  Yes, survive.  Poverty, Ladies and Gentlemen does not take a holiday.  While we all seem to be in the mood to give during times when we are about to gather with our  families in the comfort of our homes, it is important to remember those less fortunate on the other 362 days in the year.  They did not ask to live in poverty, usually circumstances beyond their control such as a medical event, or a company lay off, or carrying for a loved one with a terminal illiness was the cause of their homelessness.  So please gather with your church, school in your community and get involved with an organization making a difference in the lives of others.  I appauld what Gov. Kulongoski is doing, and hopefully his efforts will not fall upon deaf ears.

Mayor Daley's Goal: The People of Chicago

In Chicago, On Tuesday, February 27, 2007, the mayoral primary takes place.  Mayor Daley, if elected will suprpass his own fathers terms in office, which totaled five.  This will be the Mayor's sixth election.  And with no real competition on the race track he will succeed.  And, it will probably be his last term in office.  Despite scandals over this and that, Mayor Daley has really accomplished a hell of a lot.  He has changed the entire face of Chicago with new businesses, jobs, a thriving theatre district, a place Hollywood stops in to shoot a movie or two.  Streets, areas once unsafe, are now safe enough for your grandma to walk down, alone. And housing for those who would otherwise be living on city streets and eating their meals from trash bins.  In my opinion, he is only continuing his fathers dream for all who call Chicago, home.

In Chicago, Cook County prosecutors have been ordered to drop all cases handled by nine special operations Chicago police officers, four of whom have been charged with robbing, kidnapping and intimidating drug dealers, according to a memo sent to state's attorney's offices.  This makes no sence, especially with the type of crimes each officer committed.

A few weeks ago the Chicago Sun Times revisited a murder story that in 1976 stunned all who lived in Chicago.  A young woman, around the same age as me at the time, all of 17 years old,  arrested for shooting and butchering her entire family.
