My point is that anyone is capable of committing a crime. What makes it worse is when it is an individual who has taken an oath to serve and protect believe that have the right to take the life of their own wife. Obviously, she was scared by going and securing a court order of protection. Why is it so difficult for those "close" to these families to believe they are not capable? An abuser is clever like a fox. They never allow anyone to really see who they are as a person. I remember when my parents died and those on the force were in denial making remarks like "it was not possible" or "he was a great cop and father" my favorite was "she drove him to this." That is why it is important for everone who is involved in an abusive relationship to have a safety plan. I have not seen much written on Lori, you remember, the woman who is no longer on this earth. Cowardly Cop, Scott Curtis Trautner forced his young, 14 year old helpless victim into having sex with him. This former State trooper could have also reduced the emotional trauma for the victim and her family had he done the right thing by admitting his guilt and face the consequences of his ugly behavior. Instead, he thrust the victim into playing the events of that horrible night on the witness stand describing to a jury how she was forced into having sex with him.
The judge sentenced Scott Curtis Trautner, 41, of Woodbury, must serve 30 years of probation, perform 3,000 hours of community service, pay almost $8,000 in fines and restitution and register as a sex offender. But State sentencing guidelines call for a minimum of 12 years in prision. But because of the trooper's "special situation" the judge took that into account.
