In Illinois, Former Governor George Ryan was convicted and sentenced to 6 1/2 years in Federal Prison (more like a country club) in Oxford Wisconsin.  His case is on appeal and he begins serving his sentence in November.  Now he is arguing that his pension, for the sake of his wife, continue on. CHICAGO-- Alexandra “Andrea” Coutretsis the fiancée of Scott Fawell, ex-aide to former Gov. George Ryan, was sentenced Monday to four months in prison for lying to a federal grand jury investigating acts of corruption in the Illinois Secretary of State’s office when Ryan held the top position.  When she began working at the office both she and Scott were married to other people. Soon after her employment began, the two were inseperatable.  They fell in love.  Now that love or rather the high drama of their lives has cost them both, dearly.  Both of them will have been branded convicted felons.  Not a good way to start over in life, is it.  But this young impressionable woman was in "LOVE".  Willing to do just about anything including lying to a grand jury for the "LOVE" of her life.  What kind of life will she have when Scott Fawell is released
in 6 1/2 years.  Although they won't be standing in the food stamp line, you can guess their life together won't be easy.

Convicted Serial Killer Denied Freedom, But Has Hope

On 5/26/06 I wrote about convicted serial killer Patricia Palumbo Reforming A Murderer Is Not Possible .  This past week she was in front of the Illnois Prisioner Review Board, for the 14th time in an attempt to be released from prision.  She was only 17 years old when she slaughtered her entire family.  She has been in prison for 30 years.  And you guessed it "she has changed her life."  She's not the same person and she's hopeful she'll be released when she appears again in front of the Board.  This hearing was different she won the support of 2 prison review board members. By a slim vote, the board agreed to set Columbo's next parole hearing for next summer. She has been behind bars for 30 years after being convicted of the 1976 deaths of her parents and her 13-year-old brother in Elk Grove Village. Columbo was sentenced along with boyfriend/co-defendant 37-year-old Frank DeLuca to 200 to 300 years. DeLuca is serving time in Centraila.  In my opinion, she should not be released.  What would she do to become a productive member of society?  Go around the lecture circuit, ger paid to speak and say she's sorry? This is not something that should even be entertained by the review board.
