Trial began yesterday for the former Memphis Deputy Monique Davis who murdered Memphis Officer Hayes, father and husband gang bang style. She's claiming it was self defense. It was more of a jealous rage from a woman scorned. He had taken out an order of protection just before he was murdered. In a bizarre twist, her son was also charged as an accomplice in the murder.

In Police Officer related crimes among families, the suspect or in this case Ken DeKleine according to people who posted yesterday, is the last person anyone would suspect of murdering their own spouse. My point is that anyone is capable of committing a crime. What makes it worse is when it is an individual who has taken an oath to serve and protect believe that have the right to take the life of their own wife. Obviously, she was scared by going and securing a court order of protection. Why is it so difficult for those "close" to these families to believe they are not capable? An abuser is clever like a fox. They never allow anyone to really see who they are as a person. I remember when my parents died and those on the force were in denial making remarks like "it was not possible" or "he was a great cop and father" my favorite was "she drove him to this." That is why it is important for everone who is involved in an abusive relationship to have a safety plan. I have not seen much written on Lori, you remember, the woman who is no longer on this earth. Her children need each and every one in the community right now during this time. Not lip service defending a man, accused of murder, you obviously did not know.

When an order of protection is issued there is a hearing with evidence presented in front of a judge. All too often, so the officer remains on the force, charges will be reduced or just disappear. I have a question for the prosecutor on the case who obviously had enough evidence to secure th order of protection at the initial hearing. WHY? And are you willing to guarantee the victim's safety and well being?Living in America has its trade-offs. More Americans' are purchasing protection products. Many lack the power, training or understanding that goes with carrying what they consider items to protect themselves should they fall victim to a crime. I thought this was interesting..........
We live in a country where we have freedoms that few others enjoy. Our standards of living are higher, our wages are better and we have the freedom to move about the country virtually without question.

Officer Alfred John Brown, 29, faces murder charges in the Wednesday slaying of Kathy Chavira, 27. According to an arrest warrant, he stabbed Kathy Chavira several times while they were at his mother's house, then dropped the knife and drove away in his truck.
Brown has been with the Sheriff's Office for 10 years. He was suspended from his job as a jailer about two years ago after he was arrested on an assault charge but later reinstated, Bexar County sheriff's Sgt. Martin C. Molina said.
SAN ANTONIO -- A 30-year-old Bexar County detention officer surrendered to law enforcement authorities overnight several hours after he was accused of fatally stabbing his common-law wife. Alfred Brown, a guard at the Bexar County Jail, has been charged with murder and is being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Sheriff's deputies said that the relationship between Brown and his common-law wife, Kathy Chavira, reached the boiling point when he apparently picked up their 3-month-old and 6-year-old daughters from a baby sitter without permission Wednesday afternoon.
An argument between Brown and Chavira over the custody of the girls escalated at the front door of Brown's parent's home in the 3100 block of Beacon Field.
"She (Brown's mother) tried to get between them," said Sgt. Martin Molina, of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. "Apparently, a few minutes later, he pushed her out of the way, came out with a knife, stabbed her (Chavira) multiple times in the shoulder, head area."
Brown then took off in his 2002 Isuzu Rodeo and turned himself into law enforcement authorities several hours later.
The couple had been together for seven years but began having problems over the last two years, family members said.
