Judge Richard Paulmbo Needs to Be Removed from The Legal System

I'm perplexed in October one of my very first posts was about a woman by the name of Yvette Cade who sought an order of protection in a Maryland court from Judge Richard Palumbo. And I asked all blogers to send an outrage email to the various media folks. The Judge basically mocked her and refused to grant a continued order of protection.  A couple weeks later her husband set Yvette on fire.

A surveillance camera at a T-Mobile store captured the most terrifying moment in Yvette Cade's life. It was the moment her estranged husband, Roger Hargrave, tried to kill her.

Hargrave entered the store and doused Cade with gasoline. She ran into the parking lot. He caught her and used a match to set her on fire. The camera shows, as the flames consumed her, Cade rushed back inside for help. A co-worker called 911.

A woman was shouting to Yvette to Lay down! Lay down! She's on fire. She's on fire. Lay down! Lay down! And screaming out that she's on fire.

Earlier that same morning, Cade called 911, telling an operator that Hargrave had been making threatening calls. One in particular was a frightening clue into her fate.

Cade's family says the story of what happened to her actually began several weeks before the brutal attack, before any threatening calls. It started when Cade went to Prince George's County District Court Judge Richard Palumbo to ask him to keep a restraining order in place against Hargrave.  Nothing she said mattered to Judge Palumbo. She was trying to plead her case. She let it be known that she was in fear of her life.

According to the court transcripts that I listened in on-- instead of getting help from Judge Palumbo, she got insults.

And Judge Palumbo  was trying to force me to go to marriage counseling.
Telling Cade  It might not be a bad idea, if you want to save the marriage. Shew said she just wanted the order of protection continued.  Judge Palumbo responded to Yvette and told her
"Then you're in the wrong place. Get a lawyer and go to divorce court. "

Yvette Cade and her family also say Judge Palumbo should be removed from the bench. He remains on administrative duty until August, when he will be judged himself at hearings on his conduct.

Yvette Cade's ex-husband is scheduled to be sentenced June 2nd. He could get life in prison.

But what about the Judge? Why is he still being paid?  You know I have tried to educate women across the country on the importance of a paper trail by seeking police response and orders of protection.  Yvette Cade did everything in her power.  She followed the law and went through the system.  But, in this case the system failed.  And she's lucky to be alive.  Judge Palumbo shouldn't be forced to resign and collect a pension.  He should be tried in a court of law.  He should loose his law license.  He should be mandated to work 2000 hours in a domestic violence crisis center.

He should be treated no differently than the victims he has turned a deaf ear on over the years. Usually men like this are abusive themselves in their own homes.  He should never be allowed in a court of law again.  And to his powerful allies go ahead continue to protect this cowardly man whom you think is so great.  I say for shame on you for not knowing right from wrong.
