DETROIT -- An off-duty police officer died Friday after she shot herself following an argument with her husband, who is also a Detroit police officer. According to investigators Tabitha McCree, 37, a five-year department veteran, argued with her 44-year-old husband Jaimy the Southwest District station around 11 a.m. McCree left the station at 4700 W. Fort in her car and drove to a secluded area near West Vernor Highway and St. Ann where she got out of the car and shot herself in the stomach, police said. "It was a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Detroit Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings said after the officer died at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Investigators said she used a personal weapon. McCree was assigned to the department's Central Events Section and once worked in the Southwest District where her husband was also once assigned. He is assigned to traffic enforcement and was on duty Friday morning, police said. The couple had a history of domestic problems and Jaimy McCree left their Manor Street home three days ago, investigators said.
