Officer Sonia Garcia Can Now Rest in Peace

The real Christmas present arrived just a few days ago for slain New York Officer and mother Sonia Garcia. On Friday, Cowardly Tin Badge Alexis Chaparro was finally indicted by the grand jury three months after he murdered her in cold blood while the children were in another room of the home the couple shared.  This piece of pathetic trash could have walked away, left the relationship.  But as most abusers do, they desire that last act of ultimate control, to take those they say they love by killing these women.  This case and others of late, make it hard to swallow, especially when your a police officer, sworn to serve and protect.

The NYPD instructor long suspected of killing his fiancee, fellow city cop Sonia Garcia, surrendered to authorities today after being indicted for the fatal shooting.

Officer Alexis Chaparro turned himself into Suffolk County authorities this morning. A spokesman for the prosecutors' office declined to specify the charge because the indictment had not been unsealed.

Chaparro, 27, and Garcia, 28, met at the NYPD academy in Manhattan. They bought a house together in North Bay Shore, L.I., and planned to marry this spring.

On the surface, everything seemed fine until just before dawn on Sept. 29, when Chaparro called 911 and claimed he found his lover shot in the bedroom of their house.

Garcia was shot once in the chest and suspicion quickly focused on Chaparro, who was suspended without pay by the NYPD amid the ongoing criminal probe.

As the days dragged on without an indictment, Garcia's family grew frustrated and accused investigators of foot-dragging.

"She lived her life for this state and we still haven't seen justice in her murder," Garcia's father, Luis Hernandez, told the Daily News last month in an exclusive interview.

Garcia's mother, Lucia Hernandez, added, "I'm begging them to arrest (Chaparro). It will bring me a little bit of peace in my heart."

The grieving parents described Chaparro as a jealous and controlling "monster" who showed little love to Garcia's two daughters from a previous relationship, Ashley, 11, and Joselyn, 7.

"I want him to be arrested," Ashley had said of Chaparro. "It would be a little bit of satisfaction, but not so much, because my life won't be the same anymore without my mom."
