A Plea to The Fraternal Order of Police
It's okay, I am a police officer and I have the self appointed right, because I have been issued a gun and a big tin badge, providing me the ultimate power, to murder my wife. You see gentlemen, my fellow comrade's in blue, she wants to end our marriage. And I have the power to end her life. This is the third such suicide in this police department within a 12 month period. Obviously, it is not enough to have an employee assistance division within police departments, because it is not effective. This "cookie cutter" mentality among law enforcement departments across the country must structure a program that deals with officers and their families as a unit. Police unions must get their heads out from under the caves they inhabit and begin providing real solutions to this deadly problem within their own "blue walls". There are many ways to be effective and assist officers and families. Experts who can assist in providing real change and save lives. A good place to start is within the Fraternal Order of Police, they have the power to be agents of change.
